At a recent meeting of the World Athletics Council held in Torun, Poland, the cities that will host the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 2028 and 2030 were announced. Among the selected locations are the state of Odisha in India and the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, reports Kazinform.

The announcement of the host cities took place during the 240th Council meeting, which preceded the 2026 World Athletics Championships.

The choice of Astana and Odisha as venues for the world championships aligns with the strategy of the World Athletics Association aimed at organizing major sporting events in developing regions.

Hosting the championship in Kazakhstan in 2030 will open new horizons for athletics in the country. Astana already hosted the Asian Indoor Championships in 2023, and stages of the Gold World Indoor Tour are scheduled for 2024 and 2025.
