Three Iranian national team footballers refused asylum in Australia

As reported by Australia's Minister of Home Affairs Tony Burke, footballers Zahra Soltan Meshkekar, Mona Hamoudi, and Zahra Sarbali decided to join the rest of the team and return to Iran.

Previously, the athletes received humanitarian visas due to security threats that arose after the incident at the Women's Asian Cup. During the match against South Korea on March 2, the Iranian players did not perform the national anthem, which provoked a negative reaction back home.

Despite the opportunity to stay in Australia and consider other options, they chose to return with the team. The situation with the women's national team attracted the attention of the global media and caused a wide resonance.
