The official statement from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed the appointment of Mohamed Ouabi as the head coach of the national team. He replaces Walid Regragui, who led the "Atlas Lions" to a historic fourth place at the World Cup in Qatar.
Ouabi earned this position due to his outstanding achievements with youth teams. Under his guidance, the Moroccan youth national team achieved a sensational victory at the World Cup in Chile, and the Olympic team won bronze medals at the 2024 Games held in Paris. Before returning to Morocco, he worked for nearly two decades at the renowned academy of the Belgian club "Anderlecht."
The new coaching staff also includes the well-known Portuguese specialist João Sacramento, who has significant experience working with top European clubs such as "Paris Saint-Germain," "Roma," "Tottenham," and "Lille," where he served as an assistant to leading coaches in the world.
FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa has already outlined the priorities for the new coaching staff: not only to maintain the status of the strongest team in Africa but also to secure a solid place in world football. Mohamed Ouabi's debut as head coach will take place on March 27 in a friendly match against the Ecuador national team. This game will be an important stage in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, where Morocco will face teams from Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti in the group stage.
