The punishment was imposed following an incident that occurred on January 28 during a Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, where three fans of the club displayed Nazi salutes.
UEFA noted that the sanctions are related to "discriminatory and racist behavior of the fans." The ban on participating in away matches will be in effect for a year and may be activated in case of a repeat violation. Additionally, the club was fined €2,250 for throwing objects at the Deutsche Bank Park stadium.
Representatives of Tottenham stated that they actively cooperated with the investigation conducted by UEFA and the German police and were able to identify all three offenders, who were issued indefinite bans from attending the team's matches. In an official statement, the club condemned all forms of discrimination and emphasized that the actions of individual fans do not reflect the values of the club.
On the field, Tottenham secured a 2-0 victory under former coach Thomas Frank, allowing the team to advance to the Round of 16 in the Champions League, where they will face Atletico Madrid. The first match will take place on March 10 in Spain, and the return leg will be held on March 18 in North London.
Despite their successes in the Champions League, Tottenham is facing difficulties in the English Premier League, sitting in 16th place in the table and just five points above the relegation zone. Midfielder Yves Bissouma noted that the club needs to make significant efforts to improve its results.
