The Kyrgyz wrestler achieved a comeback victory, finishing the match with a score of 4:3, despite being down 0:3 at the beginning of the bout.
In the quarterfinals, Makhmudov met the Azerbaijani wrestler Tundzhay Vaziri. The key moment of this match was an opponent's throw that earned him four points. As a result, the Kyrgyz wrestler lost with a score of 2:5.
After Vaziri lost in the semifinals to a Russian wrestler, Makhmudov had no chance of participating in the consolation matches and finished the tournament without a medal.
On the same day, in the weight category up to 82 kg, Yryskeldi Maksatbek uulu also could not advance further, losing to the Qatari wrestler Shahin Badagimofrad with a score of 2:10 in the 1/8 finals.
