At the tournament held in Tirana, the Kyrgyzstan freestyle wrestling team took 7th place in the team standings.
The men's competitions took place on February 25 and 26, during which 10 sets of medals were contested. A total of 29 national teams participated, creating significant competition in each weight category.
Three medals and 55 points in the team standings
The Kyrgyzstan team was represented by 10 wrestlers, and as a result of the tournament, they managed to win three medals: one gold, one silver, and one bronze, which earned them 55 points.
The most outstanding achievement was the performance of Ernazar Akmataliev in the 70 kg weight category, where he confidently reached the final and won the gold medal. In the same category, Zalkarbek Tabaldiev became the bronze medalist, which increased the team's overall medal count.
However, according to the rules of ranking tournaments, only the points of one athlete from each country in each weight category are counted towards the team standings. Thus, Kyrgyzstan did not receive the additional 15 points for Tabaldiev's bronze medal, which affected the final team result.
The significance of the tournament
Ranking tournaments hold an important place in the international sports calendar and play a key role in shaping the world ranking of wrestlers. The points earned influence the seeding of athletes at world championships and other major competitions throughout the season.
Seventh place among 29 teams highlights the competitiveness of Kyrgyz wrestlers on the world stage, instilling hope for successful performances in future tournaments.
