Footballer Achraf Hakimi, representing Paris Saint-Germain and the Moroccan national team, will be tried in France on charges of rape. The investigating judge has decided to refer the case to court, supporting the recommendations of the Nanterre prosecutor's office.
This incident, according to investigation information, occurred in February 2023 at the player's home located in the Paris suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt. The victim claims that they met through social media, after which the woman visited the footballer. Official charges were brought against Hakimi in March 2023, and since then he has been under judicial control, prohibited from contacting the complainant.
Hakimi, who is 27 years old, completely denies his guilt. His defense claims that only a kiss occurred between him and the woman and that the accusations are unfounded. The footballer's lawyers are confident in his innocence and believe that an open trial will reveal the truth and restore the athlete's reputation.
According to French law, if Hakimi's guilt is proven, he could face up to 15 years in prison, which is the maximum penalty for rape without aggravating circumstances. The date for the start of the trial will be announced soon.
