Andrea Franchizi, one of the leaders of the organizing committee, noted that they are studying this issue.
“We place great importance on the medals. It is one of the most significant moments for athletes, and we strive to ensure that everything goes perfectly,” he added.
A representative of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee told BBC that American athletes expect a resolution to this issue from the organizers. Meanwhile, it is still unknown whether athletes will receive new medals to replace those that are damaged.
