Georgy Cherdantsev, a popular sports commentator, shared his thoughts on whether artificial intelligence could take the place of commentators in sports. He believes that such concerns are unfounded, as AI cannot reproduce the important human qualities necessary for live broadcasting.
In an interview with the publication "Championat," Cherdantsev noted that AI bases its actions on rational principles, while humans are sometimes led to successful decisions by irrational actions. This ability, in his opinion, is key in the work of a commentator.
The commentator also added that AI lacks natural emotions and is incapable of improvisation—skills that are critically important for successful broadcasting. The emotional reaction to events on the field and the ability to quickly respond to changes remain unique human traits.
"Therefore, commentators and hosts of live broadcasts need not worry that AI will replace them," he concluded.
Cherdantsev, who works for the "Match TV" channel, is one of the most well-known sports commentators in Russia. In 2023, he received the national television award TEFI in the category "Host of a Sports Program / Sports Commentator."
