
At the 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia, held in Tashkent, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani was elected as the new chairman of the organization. He replaced Randhir Singh from India, who stepped down due to health reasons.
After his election, Sheikh Joaan emphasized that Asia is the largest and most diverse continent in the Olympic family. He noted that this diversity serves as a powerful engine for the region. According to the new chairman, unity based on respect and commitment to Olympic values will create opportunities for the empowerment of national Olympic committees and will contribute to the development of youth on the international sports stage.
The General Assembly meeting was attended by representatives of national Olympic committees from many Asian countries, including the Secretary General of the NOC of Turkmenistan, Ata Akmammedov, and the Chairman of the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan, Allaberdi Saparov.
