Senegal's backup goalkeeper Yevann Diouf spoke about how, during a heavy rain, the towel belonging to Mendy, which was near the goal, was repeatedly attempted to be taken by ball boys, staff members, and even representatives of the opposing team. In order for the main goalkeeper to maintain his concentration and feel comfortable, Diouf had to intervene and protect the towel.
He noted that the Senegalese team expected such behavior, as they had already encountered similar incidents in matches against Morocco. Unfortunately, the referee did not take action in this situation, despite pressure from the opposing players.
Nevertheless, despite this chaotic situation, Senegal was able to maintain composure and secure victory in the match. Diouf emphasized that this incident became a symbol of team spirit and mutual support on the path to winning the AFCON-2025 title.
