On Cristiano Ronaldo's native island of Madeira, a shocking incident occurred: the police have launched an investigation after an unknown individual set fire to a bronze statue of the footballer. The perpetrator filmed his act and posted it on social media.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning near the CR7 museum, located in the island's capital, Funchal. The footage shows a young man pouring flammable substances on the statue and then igniting it with a lighter. As the flames engulfed the monument, he narrowly escaped injury and then began dancing to loud rap music coming from a portable speaker.
The video was posted on Instagram on an account with about a thousand followers. The author attached a mysterious message to the video: "This is God's last warning." According to local media, the man identifies himself as a freestyle performer.
Law enforcement is taking measures to identify and apprehend the suspect. Information regarding the extent of the damage to the statue has not yet been reported. It is worth noting that in 2016, the monument had already been relocated after a similar act of vandalism.
The statue of Cristiano Ronaldo and the CR7 museum are significant tourist attractions in Madeira, and this incident has sparked widespread public outrage, as well as condemnation from the footballer's fans.
