Weightlifters will be able to participate in international competitions under the flag of the Russian Federation
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) granted this right to athletes under the age of 23. As for adult athletes, their admission will only be possible after the restoration of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
A similar decision was made by United World Wrestling (UWW), which allowed Russians up to 24 years old to participate in international competitions with their country's flag and anthem. The issue of allowing senior wrestlers remains open and will be discussed at the next UWW bureau meeting.
The ban on Russian athletes participating in international tournaments and the Olympic Games was imposed after the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine in 2022. In February 2025, Russian wrestlers will be able to compete under the UWW flag at international tournaments, while until then, they were allowed to participate in competitions in a neutral status.
