Makhmudov reached the final in the weight category up to 77 kg but lost to Hungarian athlete Tamas Lorincz, finishing in second place.
“I couldn’t show myself even at 10% in the final. It’s an amazing event, the Olympic Games,” he noted.
Lorincz was ending his career in this match, while for Makhmudov, everything was just beginning. “He was the reigning world and European champion and ended his career with the title of Olympic champion. This is immense happiness and a dream for any athlete,” the wrestler added.
Although he sometimes feels sad about the defeat, he is also happy for his opponent: “I am sincerely happy for him, as not every athlete gets to end their career like that,” Akjol Makhmudov said in an interview with journalist Tahir Gafurov.
