Denis Petrashov in the USA is preparing for the Asian Games and the Olympics
From January 14 to 18, he participated in an international tournament, where he won three medals.
The coach of the Kyrgyzstan national team, Evgeny Petrashov, spoke in an interview with Sport AKIpress about the current preparation process for the 2028 Olympic Games.
- What competitions has he already participated in the USA?
- He started with two stages of the World Cup, but unfortunately fell ill, which affected his results. Then he took part in the US Championship after intensive training camps. We focused our efforts on achieving results, and he didn’t even shave his head. He made it to the finals twice and took 5th place in one of the distances. There was also a tournament in Austin.
- It is clear that the focus is now on the Olympic Games. What is your next competition?
- All the leading swimmers in the world are currently gathered in the USA, preparing for the Olympics, and we have the same goal. However, the next major competition for us will be the Asian Games in Japan, scheduled for the fall of 2026.
- Has the selection for the Olympics begun?
- The international federation has already sent us the standards, which will come into effect on April 1, 2027. This year, a new distance of 50 meters breaststroke has been added. The standards have become even stricter compared to previous years.
- What were the results of the competition in Austin, where Denis won three medals?
- It was the season opener, and during the preparation, significant work was done both in the gym and in the water.
- Denis won three medals, but how are his times?
- The times are very close to his best achievements. With such preparation for the Asian Games, he will be in excellent shape. We will be able to check how our plan worked, provided that we manage to complete all the scheduled training sessions.
