Audi conducted the first test runs of the 2026 Formula 1 car
The Audi company was the first among automakers to test its Formula 1 car on a track that complies with the 2026 regulations. The tests took place at the "Barcelona-Catalunya" circuit, where the team conducted a shakedown of the R26 model.
According to FIA rules, the testing distance was limited to 200 kilometers. Both Audi drivers, Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, were behind the wheel, each covering approximately 100 kilometers. The new car was presented in black with an unpainted livery, featuring only the Audi logo in the form of four rings on the rear wing.
The shakedown was an important milestone in the development of the project, following the successful launch of the R26 power unit on December 19, 2025. This event marked the completion of the integration of the engine and chassis, which were developed in Neuburg (Germany), Hinwil (Switzerland), and Bicester (United Kingdom).
Jonathan Wheatley, the team principal, emphasized the significance of this moment as a critically important step in Audi's Formula 1 program and stated the team's readiness to move on to further stages of development ahead of their debut season.
It is worth noting that Audi will begin its participation in the World Championship in 2026, when new technical requirements aimed at increasing electrical power and using environmentally friendly fuel come into effect.
