Istvan Urbanji has taken over the Maldives national team after 12 years

The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has made an official statement that Hungarian coach Istvan Urbanji will once again lead the national team. In addition to his duties as head coach, he will also serve as the technical director, responsible for developing the country's football infrastructure.

Urbanji has previously held the position of head coach of the Maldives national team twice: from 2009 to 2010 and from 2011 to 2013. During this time, he achieved significant results in regional tournaments and contributed to the improvement of the team's level. Now, after 12 years, the Hungarian specialist is returning with the aim of updating the coaching system, implementing modern approaches, and preparing the team for international tournaments.

FAM noted that Urbanji's appointment as coach is a step towards the long-term development of the football sector in the country, including youth training, infrastructure improvement, and increasing the competitiveness of the national team both at the South Asian level and on a continental scale.

Istvan Urbanji is renowned for his emphasis on tactical discipline and the development of youth teams, and the Maldives leadership is confident that these qualities will form the foundation for achieving future successes for the national team.
