
A meeting took place recently between Kanatbek Chynybaev, the Minister of Emergency Situations, and Siroko Messerli, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Switzerland to Kyrgyzstan.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the meeting discussed key areas for bilateral cooperation in the coming years.
Particular attention was paid to projects implemented under the United Nations World Food Programme, aimed at enhancing the resilience of rural areas to natural disasters and climate change, as well as modernizing the capabilities of Kyrgyzhydromet to improve hydrological forecasting and the study of glaciers and snow cover.
The Kyrgyz side expressed a desire to establish a partnership with the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research to implement modern methods of monitoring and forecasting avalanche danger, which is of particular importance for the mountainous regions of Kyrgyzstan.
Siroko Messerli confirmed Switzerland's readiness to consider the proposed initiatives and ideas from the Kyrgyz side aimed at expanding cooperation between the two countries.
