What are the consequences for the city due to the authorities' decisions?
The Bishkek city hall confirmed that instructions and notifications have been sent to the relevant services. This statement was made in response to a threat from the municipal enterprise "Bishkek City Transport" regarding a possible internet shutdown for a significant part of the capital.
The situation is related to the implementation of the "Clean Sky" project, timed to coincide with the SCO summit and the World Nomad Games. As part of the preparations for these events, road works are being carried out in Bishkek, which include relocating cables and wires underground. City authorities are taking a tough stance against private operators: if they do not meet deadlines, city hall employees simply cut the wires and dismantle the poles, without taking responsibility for the consequences of the communication shutdown.
The Association of Communication Operators of Kyrgyzstan reacted to this situation by issuing a statement demanding the removal of all wires on the central streets of the capital by March 31, which they believe is physically impossible. The list of streets where work needs to be done includes:
- Abdrahmanov St. / Baytik Baatyr St. - from Jibek Jolu Ave. to Akhunbaev St.;
- Akhunbaev St. - from Baytik Baatyr St. to Ch. Aitmatov Ave.;
- Auezov St. - from Kolbaev St. to Saliev St.;
- Gorky St. - from Baytik Baatyr St. to Manas Ave.;
- Jibek Jolu Ave. - from the Western bus station to Abdrahmanov St.;
- Manas Ave. / Ch. Aitmatov Ave. - from Jibek Jolu Ave. to Azhybek Baatyr St.;
- Chui St. - from Beyshenaliev St. to April 7 St.
