Bishkek has been approved as the venue for the centralized playoff tournament of the Western Zone of the AFC Challenge League. The Asian Football Confederation decided to change the tournament format due to the unstable situation in the Middle East region, moving from two-legged ties to a single decisive match for the quarterfinals and semifinals. Previously, the matches were scheduled for March, but they will now take place from April 19 to 22, 2026.
For Kyrgyz fans, the most anticipated event will be the quarterfinal match between 'Muras United' and Lebanon's 'Al-Ansar', which will take place on April 19 at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium. On the same day, the main arena of the country will host the match between Oman's 'Al-Shabab' and Kuwait's 'Kuwait SC', competing for a spot in the next round. It is worth noting that the playoff participants from the Western Zone include the winners of three groups and one team that finished second with the best statistics.
The winners of the quarterfinals will meet in the semifinals, which will also be held in Bishkek on April 22. The team that wins this match will have the opportunity to represent the Western Zone in the final of the tournament, scheduled for May 9. Experts believe that 'Muras United', playing at home, has a significant advantage, as the support of local fans could play a crucial role in their confrontation with experienced opponents from Lebanon and Kuwait.
Preparations for the stadium to welcome international delegations are already underway. Organizers are hoping for high attendance, considering the historic moment — this is the first opportunity for a Kyrgyz club to compete for a place in the final of such a prestigious continental tournament on home soil.
