With the onset of winter, when snow falls in the mountains, wild boars descend to the lowlands, and encounters with them become quite frequent. In such situations, it is necessary to be especially cautious, as these large animals can pose a danger.
Sports hunter Vasily Zaitsev shared his story: after obtaining permits, he went to the mountains with the aim of hunting capercailzies, bringing along his West Siberian Laikas. “Hunting with them is always exciting, as they are capable of flushing capercailzies from the bushes and finding wounded game in the thickets. This time, as we were climbing the mountains, the dogs unexpectedly disappeared behind a mountain ridge. We could neither hear nor see them, but when they returned, they were covered in blood. One of the dogs had a wound on its chest, and the other had a gash in its side. It seems that the Laikas encountered either a large sow with piglets or, more likely, a boar that seriously injured them. We had to stop the hunt and urgently take the dogs to a veterinary clinic, where they received the necessary care. Fortunately, both Laikas survived,” Zaitsev said.
