In Uzbekistan, a draft law is being considered that could prohibit divorces for couples who have been married for less than one year. This document also proposes extending the period during which the court will be required to attempt to reconcile spouses, reports Podrobno.uz.

According to the proposed changes, couples without common minor children will only be able to file for divorce at the civil registry office if at least twelve months have passed since the marriage was registered. Similar restrictions will apply to judicial divorce proceedings. Exceptions will be made for situations involving domestic violence: in such cases, victims will be able to divorce regardless of the time spent in marriage.

Additionally, the amendments to the Family Code aim to protect children's rights. In particular, it is proposed to establish a minimum amount of child support that is not lower than the level of minimum consumer expenses. To increase the transparency of alimony payments, it is planned to introduce mandatory opening of special bank accounts in the name of minors, where funds will be deposited under the supervision of guardianship authorities.
