In Caracas, in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods called Chacao, two robotic dogs have been put into operation to patrol public spaces. Local authorities emphasize that these devices are intended to support police officers, not replace them.

This program, launched in March 2026, was presented by Mayor Gustavo Duque and includes robotic "dogs" named Turbo and Voltio. Equipped with high-tech cameras and motion sensors, the robots will monitor squares and other public places, primarily at night, transmitting real-time images to the municipal dispatch center.

As authorities note, the main task of these robots is to detect suspicious activities, monitor license plates, and assist police officers in conducting regular patrols, rather than replacing traditional law enforcement personnel or canine units.

This project is a demonstration, as Chacao aims to become a testing ground for the implementation of "smart" policing in Latin America. Chacao is one of five municipalities in Caracas and is known for its major financial institutions, hotels, and shopping complexes.

The launch of this system is seen by local authorities as the first such experience in the region, which is part of a broader trend of integrating police presence with modern surveillance technologies in urban spaces, where safety continues to be a priority in the public and political agenda.
