In Osh, preparations have begun for a large-scale reconstruction of the national historical and archaeological museum complex "Sulaiman-Too." For this purpose, the World Bank has allocated approximately $12 million in grants.

The deputy director of the complex, Khayrullo Ibodullaev, informed the portal 24.kg that the collected funds will be used to update key tourist areas. The renovation will affect roads, stairs, gates, internal premises, and the facades of the museums. Restoration of the Ak-Medrese, built by Alimbek Datka, is also planned. The entire project is divided into 12 stages and will be carried out in three phases.

Additionally, for the convenience of people with disabilities, golf carts will be introduced to operate between the museum's central parking lot and the "Water Gates" on the eastern side.

It is expected that the work will take two years. However, the complex will remain accessible to visitors throughout the entire renovation period.
Topic under discussion
The Mayor of Osh proposed to create a pedestrian and bike path around Sulaiman-Too
During the discussion of the project, Mayor Janarbek Akayev proposed to build a bike path and sidewalk around the mountain.

As noted by Khayrullo Ibodullaev, the implementation of this initiative will be postponed to the next stage, as any changes to a UNESCO World Heritage site require prior approval from UNESCO.

It is important to note that the idea of reconstructing Sulaiman-Too was proposed back in 2019; however, the timelines were shifted due to the pandemic and lack of funding. The last major works on the complex were carried out in 2000 in connection with the celebration of Osh's 3000th anniversary.

The complex attracts about 300,000 tourists annually, of which approximately 7,000 are foreigners.
Sulaiman-Too is a landmark of Osh, which in 2009 became the first site in Kyrgyzstan included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
