In the Kyrgyz Republic, the number of prisoners and sentences to imprisonment has decreased

The event dedicated to the completion of the JUST4ALL ("Justice for All") project was held in Bishkek, which is being implemented with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights. The main goal of this project is to improve the functioning of probation services and manage information in the field of criminal justice.

At the meeting, the results of the probation service's work since its establishment were presented, focusing on the development of alternatives to imprisonment, as well as on the processes of rehabilitation and social reintegration of convicts.

These initiatives align with international and European standards aimed at enhancing transparency, accuracy, and accountability in criminal justice.

It was also noted that the Ministry of Justice and the General Prosecutor's Office have developed and implemented modern national information systems that cover key stages of the criminal process — from registration to pre-trial proceedings and the execution of court decisions.

Thanks to these measures, there has been a 24% decrease in court sentences related to imprisonment, and the number of inmates in prisons has decreased by 29%.

Additionally, unified registries of crimes and offenses were created as part of the project.

During the event, a new phase of the project was signed, which envisages the continuation of work in the field of judicial justice.
