A wastewater treatment plant will be launched in Karakol in August

In August 2026, a new wastewater treatment plant is expected to open in Karakol, with the implementation supported by the Asian Development Bank. According to the press service of the city administration, this project aims to improve the environmental situation, enhance the quality of urban infrastructure, and create safe living conditions for the population.

In the first phase, the plant will treat 12,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day, which will serve about 75,000 residents. The second phase is planned for 2027, during which the capacity will increase to 24,000 cubic meters, allowing coverage for up to 150,000 people with full connection to the sewage system.

Currently, key construction stages have been completed, including the installation of aeration tanks, settling tanks, sand traps, and other necessary structures. The construction of an administrative building with a laboratory has also been completed.

Commissioning work is scheduled for May, and the full completion of the project is expected in August.

At present, only 35-40% of facilities in Karakol are connected to the centralized sewage system. After the new plant is put into operation, the municipal enterprise "Gorvodokanal" intends to increase this percentage to 100%.

In addition, the expansion of the sewage networks, stretching 12.7 kilometers, has already been completed in the city, which will allow new areas to be connected to the system.

It is expected that the implementation of this project will significantly improve sanitary conditions and the environmental situation in Karakol.
