Who is at risk of contracting tuberculosis, said Abdulaat Kadyrov
Kadyrov also reported on a screening study conducted in Bishkek, which showed that some women in the postpartum period exhibited changes in their respiratory organs, and 3% of them were diagnosed with active tuberculosis.
According to him, people with weakened immune systems are also at risk, including those infected with HIV, diabetics, as well as individuals who have undergone organ transplants or are taking hormonal medications. Additionally, chronic respiratory diseases also increase the likelihood of infection.
"It was previously thought that tuberculosis is a disease of the poor, but today it occurs among both low-income individuals and wealthy citizens. Anyone can get sick," the specialist added.
The disease is transmitted through the air, meaning through conversation, coughing, or sneezing, when mycobacteria enter the air. It is important to note that tuberculosis cannot be transmitted through household items such as dishes, towels, or through handshakes, nor is it inherited. The main risk factor is prolonged and close contact with a person who has an open form of tuberculosis, Kadyrov emphasized.
