The Russian Embassy stated about provocations surrounding the Russian language in Kyrgyzstan
The diplomatic mission pointed out the growing number of conflicting statements that are being activated in public discourse.
“We find it important, without entering into disputes, to remind about the provisions of the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic,” the embassy representatives noted.
The statement emphasizes that according to the Constitution, the Kyrgyz language has the status of the state language, while Russian is an official language. All ethnic groups have the right to preserve and develop their native languages, and the state must create conditions for the study of both the state and official languages, as well as foreign languages.
The embassy also mentioned that the Constitution prohibits any discrimination based on language and other characteristics, and obliges the state to ensure harmony among ethnic groups.
In the opinion of the diplomats, provocative comments and actions by certain individuals on social media “undermine the authority of the Fundamental Law of Kyrgyzstan, threaten the foundations of the state, and contribute to inciting interethnic hatred.”
The official message also notes that the activity of so-called “language patrols” in Bishkek contradicts the policy of the Kyrgyz leadership, which adheres to a respectful attitude towards the Russian language and the spirit of strategic partnership with Russia. The diplomats emphasized the shared historical, cultural, and spiritual heritage of the two countries.
It is worth noting that the statement did not mention specific names of public figures.
