In this letter, it is emphasized that the Union of Artists of Kyrgyzstan has a solid history of 90 years. The building where the Union is located, known as the House of Artists, is an important part of the country's cultural heritage. Since its founding, it has become a center for the development of Kyrgyz visual arts, a venue for exhibitions and cultural activities.
Among those who have ever led the Union are such outstanding figures as S. Chuykov, G. Aitiev, S. Chokmorov, T. Sadykov, and Zh. Kadyraliev.
According to the appeal, "the building was constructed in the 1950s at the initiative of the government of the Kyrgyz SSR, and it is still on the balance sheet of our organization, holding the status of an architectural monument of republican significance. For many years, it has served the development of Kyrgyz art and continues to be a creative center for professional artists, a venue for exhibitions and cultural events."
Issues concerning the fate of this building raise serious concern not only among creative individuals but also among the general public.The creative team emphasizes that any changes in the status or purpose of the building, especially its destruction, would cause serious harm to national culture and historical memory, negatively impacting the spiritual upbringing of future generations.
In this context, the Union of Artists appeals to the head of state with a request to:
- support the preservation of the House of Artists;
- assign the building the status of a cultural heritage site;
- ensure conditions for the stable operation of the Union of Artists.
Recently, it became known that the Bishkek city administration plans to transfer the land on which the House of Artists is located to the Office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. Artists learned about the intention to annul the land lease agreement through social media, which came as shocking news to them.
