In Kyrgyzstan, approximately 430,000 citizens are currently suffering from viral hepatitis B, C, and D. This information was announced by the head of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for the Control of Viral Infections of the NGO "Preventive Medicine," Zuridin Nurmatov, at a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, which addresses labor, health, women's affairs, and social issues.
Nurmatov noted that official statistics do not provide a complete picture, as they rely on information about visits to medical institutions. This means that many cases remain unrecorded.
According to expert estimates, about 3.3% of the population is infected with hepatitis B, which corresponds to approximately 231,000 people. Hepatitis C is found in 2.3% of the population, while the infection rate for hepatitis D is 0.6%.
The expert also emphasized that viral hepatitis often develops without pronounced symptoms, which can lead to people remaining unaware of their illness for a long time.
The highest prevalence of hepatitis is observed among the adult population. In particular, hepatitis B is most commonly detected in individuals aged 30–39 years (approximately 6.3%) and 40–49 years (4.3%), while among children, this figure is significantly lower.
