This year, the program includes two works from Central Asia. These are the film "Winners Are Seen at the Start" by Kazakh director Zhannat Alshanova and "Only the Skies Know" by Kyrgyz director Nurjamal Karamoldoeva.
The festival will take place from April 21 to 30 in Medellín, Colombia. The jury evaluating the feature films will be headed by renowned Colombian actress and producer Natalia Reyes, who is actively involved in social justice issues. The Alternativa Film Festival focuses on socially significant cinema representing the Global South. Each year, the festival takes place in a new region. In 2026, the program will include films from Latin America and Asia, which will be presented in both the competition and the non-competitive section Impact Hits, planned for the first time this year.
