At the meeting of the Education Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on March 16, Deputy Bolot Saginayev reported that the cost of education in higher educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan has significantly increased and now exceeds prices in Moscow.

He emphasized that there has been a sharp rise in tuition fees over the past year and inquired whether the government has mechanisms to regulate these prices.

Deputy Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations Durus Kozoev responded that the responsibility for setting prices lies with the management of universities in accordance with the legislation.

According to the deputy minister, the State Antimonopoly Agency monitors prices, and this issue is currently under active discussion. In public universities, price changes are not as significant, while private educational institutions have seen a considerable increase in costs. Kozoev noted that the government has given the appropriate instructions, and work in this direction is ongoing.

Saginayev added: "Our contracts cost more than in Moscow. Educational institutions should set prices considering the average salary in the country. If each university sets its own prices, it will create an unbearable burden for ordinary citizens."
