In Kyrgyzstan, there are proposals to increase the number of crisis centers

The Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, Marlen Mamataliyev, organized a meeting attended by deputies, representatives of government bodies, and crisis centers. This was reported by the parliament's press service.

During the discussion, issues related to the operation of crisis centers were raised, including funding questions and possible solutions to these problems.

Representatives of the crisis centers emphasized the critical situation regarding funding, pointing out the difficulties in obtaining government funds. Last year, 28 million soms were allocated to support centers that assist women affected by domestic and gender-based violence; however, this amount has decreased to 15 million this year.

The Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration explained the reduction in funding by stating that the allocated funds from last year were not fully utilized. Nevertheless, representatives of the crisis centers noted that delays in reviewing proposed projects also contribute to funding issues.

Marlen Mamataliyev emphasized that in recent years, significant attention has been paid to social issues at the initiative of the president. He noted that active measures are being taken to prevent gender-based violence, strengthen families, and protect the rights of women and children.

The Speaker added that it is necessary to continue working in this direction, enhancing the interaction between government institutions and crisis centers. "It is important to increase the number of crisis centers, as only in the first ten months of last year, 18,254 cases of domestic violence were recorded, while there are only 17 such centers operating in the country," he said.

As a result of the meeting, Mamataliyev instructed the heads of the relevant government bodies to consider the raised issues and take necessary actions.

He also noted that changes to legislation would be made if necessary. "Our task is not just to identify the problem but to find ways to solve it — a comprehensive approach and prompt measures are needed," he added.

It was also emphasized that the Jogorku Kenesh will more closely monitor the implementation of laws in this area.
