This issue was raised on March 12 at a coordination meeting dedicated to law enforcement and security matters.
During the discussion, which also addressed topics related to business support and the prevention of domestic violence, the question of placing women who have suffered from violence was brought up.
Meeting participants noted that even when women try to find shelter with relatives, they often face difficulties in settling in, which forces them to return to unfavorable conditions and continue to endure violence. The previously existing crisis center, which temporarily provided assistance to victims, has been closed.
The prosecutor of the Jalal-Abad region, Turusbek Isheanaliev, emphasized the need to open a crisis center and called on local authorities to take action.
“At the moment, there is not a single crisis center for women in the Jalal-Abad region. The previously operating center, funded by international organizations, has closed. At least one crisis center with 3-4 beds should be established in every district and city. Psychologists and lawyers should work in such centers to provide assistance. It is also important to consider employment opportunities. If a woman wants to live separately but does not have her own housing or temporary shelter, she finds herself back in her old home, which only exacerbates conflicts when she can be blamed, saying, ‘You filed a complaint against me.’ Such consequences must be taken into account. Local self-government bodies should consider this when planning the budget,” he added.
- In 2019, the "Kaniyet" crisis center was opened in Manas, which accepted women and children, but its activities are currently suspended.
