The Story of the Village of Temen-Suu. Elder M. Mamytov Dispelled the Villagers' Speculations
Mamytov noted that there are 12 rural communities in the Moscow district, among which is Ak-Suu. This community includes villages such as Ak-Bashat, Temen-Suu, Bala-Ayylchy, Keper-Aryk, Chon-Aryk, Murake, and Ak-Torpok. The total population of the district is about 9,500 people, most of whom are engaged in agriculture: growing crops and raising livestock. In seven settlements, there are 7 secondary schools, a GSV, and 6 healthcare posts, but there are no kindergartens here.
According to Mamytov, the names of many villages in the Chui region have historical roots and often contain words such as "suu" (water) and "aryk" (canal). Examples include Chon-Aryk, Keper-Aryk, Temen-Suu, and others. "The history of each settlement reflects the fates of its inhabitants. It represents the interconnection and the journey taken by the people. We must know the history of the places we live in while there is still an opportunity, as over time, information may be lost," he added.
The chairman of the village council of elders, despite his age, actively participates in village life and helps solve the problems of local residents. He explained that the village of Temen-Suu is sometimes mistakenly called Tömön-Suu, which can be seen in some official documents. "This is an incorrect name. I have lived here all my life and know that the village got its name from the river Temena, which originates in a mountain gorge. Over time, the letter 'e' in the name disappeared, and only Temen-Suu remained. Some people mistakenly believe that the river flows downstream, and therefore the name should be different. Such misunderstandings occur quite often, and perhaps there is no one left who remembers how the name was correctly pronounced," noted the elder.
In addition, he added that the word "temene" translates as "hole" or "gap," which is also related to a natural water source in the mountains that resembles a needle. Mamytov also mentioned the village of Bala-Ayylchy, which is associated with the historical figure Balayylchy, who, according to local legends, saved his people during the uprising of 1916 and helped people obtain documents. Asanbek Stamov, a renowned Kyrgyz writer and friend of Mamytov, also mentioned this story.
About 2,500 people live in Temen-Suu, which is located 20 kilometers from the district center.
