According to the parliamentarian, entrepreneurs often give gifts to officials, but no one is held accountable for this.
During the session of the Jogorku Kenesh, a draft law concerning amendments to the "Conflict of Interest" law was discussed, which was under consideration for the second reading.
Deputy Dastan Bekeshev emphasized the violations of legislation related to the receipt of gifts by public servants.
He reminded that under current regulations, gifts received during official trips must be transferred to a museum.
A representative of the Cabinet confirmed the existence of this regulation, clarifying that it specifically pertains to official trips, not private visits.
Bekeshev stressed that in practice, this law is not enforced. He pointed out that entrepreneurs often give gifts, including expensive ones, to political figures.
“This creates a conflict of interest. Moreover, such situations occur in plain sight — officials receive gifts and promote their own interests. Meanwhile, no one faces punishment, and there is effectively no mechanism for this,” the deputy noted.
In response to his criticism, the Cabinet representative agreed that the law had not been applied for a long time. She added that as part of the new anti-corruption strategy, changes are planned that will be the first step towards activating the work of this law.
After the discussion, the deputies adopted the draft law in the second reading.
