Bishkek City Hall: Hourly Parking Will Encourage Drivers to Switch to Public Transport

Affordable Rates Encourage Long-Term Parking

According to Kubanychbek Imanaliev, a representative of the parking organization department, the introduction of hourly parking fees in Bishkek could encourage drivers to use public transport. This statement was made on the air of "Birinchi Radio."

Imanaliev noted that the current low rates, which are about 25 soms per day, lead drivers to leave their cars for extended periods—weeks or even months.

“If the city council decides to introduce hourly payment, it will make long-term parking unprofitable. Drivers will have to pay between 30 to 50 soms for the first two hours, and then 20 soms for each subsequent hour. This may encourage some to switch to public transport, and in the summer—to bicycles or scooters. There are many alternatives, which, in turn, will help significantly reduce traffic on the roads,” the official added.

It is worth noting that the city hall has already proposed to divide the city into zones with different parking rates.
