Social media reports a shortage of vitamin K in maternity hospitals. What does 'Kyrgyzpharmacy' say?
The editorial office of Kaktus.media received a request from one of the readers through the Call center to verify information circulating on social media.
According to her, a message appeared on Threads stating that the drug "Konakion," which is administered to newborns immediately after birth to prevent hemorrhagic disease in newborns, is unavailable in maternity hospitals in Kyrgyzstan.

One user wrote: "There is no 'Konakion' in Kyrgyzstan. Many mothers in groups are looking for it, as it is an extremely important injection for babies. How is it possible that it is nowhere to be found? Who allowed this situation? Why is there no emergency supply? Why is no one reporting this?"

The editorial office of Kaktus.media reached out for comments to the state enterprise "Kyrgyzpharmacy."
The company explained that the procurement of medications is carried out based on international non-proprietary names (INN) according to requests from health organizations approved by the Ministry of Health.

“At the moment, considering the incoming requests regarding the availability of the drug 'Phytomenadione' (INN - 'Phytomenadione', trade name - 'Konakion'), the state enterprise 'Kyrgyzpharmacy' officially reports that there is no shortage of drugs based on 'Phytomenadione' in maternity institutions of the republic. Medicines of this group are available in the central warehouse and are supplied to medical organizations according to approved requests and delivery schedules,” the press service noted.
