
In the Russian Federation, there are 1256 citizens of Kyrgyzstan held in correctional institutions. This was reported by Aibek Aydarbekov, the director of the Kyrgyz Republic consulate in Novosibirsk, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee.
Of the total number of convicts, 143 Kyrgyz citizens are in correctional institutions located in Novosibirsk. Diplomatic representatives are actively engaging with the convicted compatriots, having held meetings with 138 of them for explanatory work. However, they have not yet managed to meet with 43 citizens who are in Omsk and the Altai Krai.
According to available data, over 50% of all crimes committed by citizens are related to the illegal drug trade. Additionally, there are cases of robbery, theft, rape, fraud, and religious extremism.
In 2025, 131 citizens of Kyrgyzstan were released from places of detention. Of these, 90 received certificates for returning to their homeland, issued by the consulate. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic also carried out work on extradition, as a result of which 61 citizens returned to their homeland.
