He believes that it does not reflect the totemic significance of this animal for the Kyrgyz people.
At a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on science, education, innovative development, and information technologies, culture, sports, and youth affairs, deputy Bolot Saginayev expressed doubt that the leopard on the logo of the World Nomad Games (WNG) can be considered a snow leopard.
During the discussion, he showed an image to the director of the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports, Urmat Asanbaev, and clarified whether it was indeed a snow leopard.
Urmat Asanbaev confirmed that it was a snow leopard and added that the logo had been approved by a special commission consisting of representatives from the WNG secretariat and government officials of Kyrgyzstan.
Nevertheless, Bolot Saginayev noted that, in his opinion, the image does not correspond to the image of a snow leopard.
“It seems to me that snow leopards are depicted differently at sporting events. I have nothing against the image itself and I understand that it was approved by the commission. But the question arises: is this really a snow leopard? The snow leopard is a totemic animal for the Kyrgyz, associated with festivals and the history of our country. It is a majestic predatory animal. I did not see the image of a snow leopard on the WNG logo,” commented the deputy and suggested reconsidering the logo.
