International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8, is recognized in many countries and was officially acknowledged by the UN in 1975. This day symbolizes the struggle for women's rights, equal opportunities, and solidarity on the international stage.

According to the National Statistics Committee, by the beginning of 2026, the population of Kyrgyzstan is projected to be 7.4 million people, with a slight predominance of women — their share exceeds 50%. The average age of women in the country is 30 years, while for men it is 28 years.

The expected life expectancy for women in 2024 is 77 years, while for men it is 68 years. The main reason for the difference in life expectancy is the high mortality rate among men, which is 1.6 times higher than that of women.

In 2024, more than 45,000 women got married, and 87% of them were doing so for the first time. Most first marriages are registered between the ages of 18 and 29, with the average age for first marriage registration being 24 years, while for remarriage it is 35 years.

According to statistics, the average woman in Kyrgyzstan gives birth to about three children. Despite a slight decrease in the number of newborns from 158,000 in 2020 to 140,000 in 2024, the birth rate remains above the level of simple population reproduction.

In the economic sphere, the employment rate of women of working age is 48.7%. The most common fields of their work include education, healthcare, social services, hospitality, and trade.

However, the gender pay gap continues to exist. According to a 2025 survey, women earn an average of 65.7% of men's incomes.

Women also make up the majority of workers in the education sector: at the beginning of the 2024/25 academic year, about 87% of teachers in schools are women. Among students in educational institutions, girls also prevail: their share in vocational education is over 58%, while in universities it is about 55%.

In addition to work, women spend a significant amount of time on household duties. On average, they dedicate 4 hours and 40 minutes a day to this, while for men this figure is more than five times lower. In rural areas, women spend about five hours a day on household responsibilities, while in cities it is approximately four hours.

Women allocate an average of about 2 hours and 20 minutes per week to active leisure.
