A candidate of biological sciences and head of the vertebrate zoology laboratory at the Institute of Biology of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Askar Davletbakov, made a statement about the importance of predators in the ecosystem. He noted that predators play a key role in maintaining the health of wildlife, as they catch sick individuals, thereby preventing the spread of diseases.
This opinion was expressed during scientific, sanitary, and biotechnical events held in the Kyzyl-Suu gorge, in the Taarilgan-Koktu area, near the village of On Bir-Zhilga in the Chui region.
According to Davletbakov, the research was a response to reports from the public about possible infections of chukars and pheasants by parasites. "Previously, information about this was based on assumptions, so we decided to conduct a practical check. We have permission to catch a certain number of birds, which will be delivered to the laboratory for dissection and analysis for parasites," he explained.
The expert added that based on the results of laboratory studies, scientists will be able to identify the types of parasites inhabiting the birds and determine the necessary measures to prevent the spread of diseases.
Davletbakov also emphasized that such research is conducted on a regular basis. The law requires hunters to monitor the health status of wildlife, which includes biotechnical and veterinary measures, and, if necessary, scientists are involved in these efforts.
