On March 6 of this year, a meeting was held in Bishkek with participants from the media community, during which the organization of the second "Meikin" award competition was discussed. This award was established in 2024 at the initiative of President Sadyr Japarov and has a total prize fund of 10 million soms. Under the leadership of Daiyrbek Orunbekov, head of the information policy service of the presidential administration, participants discussed preparations for the new stage of the competition.

Daiyrbek Orunbekov noted that during the meeting, ideas were proposed to improve the format of the competition. In 2024, 10 relevant nominations were chosen, but current realities require an expansion of the themes.

"We heard many proposals. There is a need to add new, important topics to the list of nominations. Recommendations were also made to improve the evaluation criteria for works and clarify the requirements for materials," emphasized Orunbekov.

He added that a working group will be formed soon to determine the final parameters and deadlines for the competition. At this stage, the collection and analysis of new proposals is underway.

The goal of the national "Meikin" award is to recognize and encourage creative achievements in journalism, as well as to enhance the prestige of the profession and stimulate the activity of media professionals.

We remind you that last year, about 250 works were submitted to the competition, and as a result, 10 winners were announced, who received cash prizes totaling 10 million soms.
