Law enforcement agencies will consider alternative measures not related to arrest.
Askat Alagozov, the press secretary of the president, informed Radio Azattyk that as part of the ongoing reforms in law enforcement, it is planned to reassess the approach towards civil activists, journalists, and business representatives.
He noted that in cases that do not contradict the law, law enforcement agencies will be recommended to apply measures not related to detention, as well as to focus on preventive work.
“However, this does not mean that anything can be done. All decisions will be made taking into account the specific circumstances and within the framework of current legislation,” he emphasized in his written response.
Earlier, several media organizations and journalists sent an appeal to President Sadyr Japarov, Chairman of the State National Security Committee Jumgalbek Shabdanbekov, and Chairman of the Supreme Court Mederbek Satyiev, expressing concern about criminal cases against journalists and activists.
