The building of the Issyk-Kul Regional Musical and Drama Theater will be demolished and a new congress hall will be built.
On the site of the old theater, a modern congress hall is planned to be built, which will become a multifunctional cultural center.
The project for the new building includes two auditoriums: one with 1,000 seats and another with 350 seats, allowing for events of various scales to be held.
The congress hall will be fully equipped for organizing cultural events, international forums, concerts, and theatrical performances that meet high standards.
During the construction period, the theater troupe has moved to the building of the Ibrai Tumanuv Music College. The theater director, Talaybek Turgunov, stated: “The relocation is complete. The Ministry of Culture has allocated funds for the modernization of the stage at the college. We will expand the venue and install the necessary lighting and sound equipment. We will work here until the congress hall is completed, and we also plan to engage in active touring both within the country and abroad.”
The Issyk-Kul Musical and Drama Theater is the only professional theater in the region. It was founded in 1937. The building currently being demolished was put into operation in 1983, and in 1985, the theater was named after the Kyrgyz playwright Kasymaly Jantošev. Currently, the institution employs 140 people.
President Sadyr Japarov previously visited the theater and assessed its condition, noting the need for major repairs and modernization of the facility.
