At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh held on March 5, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev proposed that the state begin funding the nationwide testing (ORT).

He pointed out that the cost of the ORT has increased from 200 to 470 soms per subject, which is a significant burden for low-income families.

“Many parents are forced to send their children to paid courses to prepare for the testing. The ORT causes stress and requires additional expenses. In a number of countries, the cost of testing is covered by the state. We need to implement reforms, as our budget has increased and there is a surplus. Let’s start this year — let’s calculate how much funding we need. Private companies can continue to conduct the testing, but it should be paid for by the state,” Bekeshev emphasized.

Additionally, he raised other issues related to the ORT, specifically proposing to abolish the testing for 9th-grade students wishing to enter colleges.

The deputy also noted that despite the digitalization of various sectors, applicants still have to wait for the ORT results for one and a half months. He called for speeding up this process through computerization.

In conclusion, Bekeshev mentioned complaints from students in the Uzgen district. According to them, the school administration selects only 10 students to take the ORT in order to improve the institution's ranking, which is a violation of the law, as every student has the right to take the test.
