The tourist season is approaching. Wastewater treatment facilities will be inspected again at Issyk-Kul.
According to him, work in this direction has been actively ongoing in recent years.
“Last year, our inspectors discovered numerous boarding houses, recreation homes, and guest houses operating without wastewater treatment facilities. There are cases where instead of a proper system, a pit has simply been dug, which is then used as a septic tank, with subsequent waste removal by vacuum trucks. However, there are also entrepreneurs who have installed effective three-stage treatment systems that ensure water purification at a level of 85-90 percent,” noted Azat Sagynov.
The radio host, referring to Kylchbek Tentimyshev, the head of ecological and technical supervision at the Ministry of Natural Resources, reported that 1,198 tourist facilities are registered in the Issyk-Kul region. Of these, only 180 have their own wastewater treatment systems, while 196 facilities are connected to centralized sewage, whereas the rest use questionable septic tanks.
It was previously reported that a mechanism is being developed in Kyrgyzstan to close boarding houses that do not meet the requirements for having wastewater treatment facilities.
