The event took place ahead of International Women's Day on March 8
On March 2, a press café titled "Women with Disabilities: Leadership Without Barriers" was held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, in honor of International Women's Day on March 8. This information was provided by the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration.
Women with disabilities, deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, as well as representatives from government institutions, media, civil society organizations, and international partners participated in this event.
During the discussion, topics such as the contribution of women with disabilities to the development of the state, the promotion of inclusive policies, and the coverage of disability and gender issues in the media from the perspective of ethics and correctness were addressed.
Particular attention was paid to the stories of women leaders with disabilities from various regions of the country.
The Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration, Ainura Orozbaeva, noted in her speech that the leadership of women with disabilities is crucial for overcoming both physical and social barriers, as well as for combating double discrimination and further promoting inclusion.
She emphasized that women and girls with disabilities are more likely to face violence, social isolation, and have limited access to services.
According to her, state policy should take into account their specific needs and ensure their real representation in decision-making processes.
The ministry actively supports the protection of the rights of women and girls, especially those who face multiple forms of discrimination.
In 2024-2025, it is planned to conduct training workshops for advocates, prosecutors, investigators, and social workers on issues related to the protection of the rights of women and girls with disabilities who have experienced violence. It is expected that more than 400 specialists will participate in these trainings.
