In recent years, the country has seen an increase in cases of fraud, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Criminals use modern technologies and psychological manipulation to illegally obtain funds from citizens.
The most common methods of deception include phone calls and messages on social networks or messengers. Fraudsters often impersonate bank employees, law enforcement officials, or even relatives, using various pretexts to obtain money or confidential information.
“In most cases, criminals attempt to request bank card details, one-time codes from SMS messages, online banking data, and personal information through clicks on suspicious links,” the official statement says.
It is important to note that employees of banks and government institutions never ask for confirmation codes, passwords, or complete bank card details over the phone.
Additionally, there have been cases where citizens are drawn into illegal activities under the pretext of receiving a “reward” for temporarily using a bank card (this is called “dropping”). Transferring your banking information to third parties is illegal and can lead to criminal liability.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges citizens to be vigilant, not to trust suspicious calls and messages, and not to share their personal data. In case of such situations, it is recommended to immediately contact law enforcement agencies.
