Queues for spring: the Tulip Festival is being held for the first time in Bishkek
With the arrival of spring, Bishkek has filled with bright flowers and active trade. For the first time in the city's history, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with an agricultural company, organized a Tulip Festival, which took place in the square near Agroprom.

This event was a pleasant surprise for residents ahead of International Women's Day on March 8. Visitors were presented with 37 varieties of tulips delivered from the Netherlands, known for its flower breeding.

A choice for every taste

The stalls are bustling with activity. People are carefully choosing between classic red, soft pink, white, yellow, and bi-colored tulips. Many came here after hearing about the sale.

- "It's convenient and profitable. You can buy beautiful flowers at a lower price and delight your mom, wife, or sister," buyers share.

Some are already picking up bouquets in advance, as there are only a few days left until International Women's Day.

A representative from the "Meerim" company explains how to keep tulips fresh until the holiday: just wrap them in damp paper and keep them in a cool place. She adds that they are ready to provide care tips to every customer so that the bouquets last long.

Bulbs for the future

The festival also features tulip bulbs that can be planted in the fall for spring blooming. The organizers note that interest in planting material is shown not only by homeowners but also by residents of new buildings who wish to green their yards.

New horizons for the flower business

The festival has become an important step for the capital. Iskak Anvarbekov, the coordinator of fairs from the Ministry of Agriculture, emphasizes that such events help establish a direct connection between producers and consumers, reducing costs and making products more accessible.

Experts believe that the development of the floral sector could become a promising niche for agrarians. This year, their own bulbs were brought and grown, and there is hope for expanding tulip production with government support and investments in greenhouse complexes.

If the festival becomes popular, it could turn into an annual tradition symbolizing the beginning of spring in Bishkek. It would be wonderful to create a photo spot to capture the unique shades of tulips.

Judging by the number of people and the smiles of the buyers, the first experience with tulips can already be considered a success.

The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with Tulipland, presented this vibrant festival as a tourist product and are awaiting feedback from visitors.

The festival runs from March 2 to March 10, offering tulips both wholesale and retail.

The main goal of the event is to support domestic producers, increase the share of local products in the market, and provide the population with quality and environmentally friendly flowers. The festival also aims to develop the flower industry, promote new varieties, and attract investments to the sector. Within the framework of the event, consultations with specialists and experience exchange in flower cultivation will be organized.
